The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound’s fall provisional class presented The Guidance Center of New Rochelle with the renovation of the facility’s early childhood staff room, nursery classroom and stairwell painting of a mural based on Dr. Seuss’ Oh the Places You’ll Go. The Fall Provisional class project was to enhance The Guidance Center through renovation and educational resources for both the children and the early childhood staff.
The Guidance Center is a multi-service, community-based non-profit agency that provides services for children and adults. It is bicultural and bilingual, serving the English and Spanish speaking communities in and around New Rochelle. The Center provides early childhood programs such as universal free pre-kindergarten and a therapeutic nursery for children with special needs. The nursery classroom was enhanced with new rugs, seating, an art table, musical instruments, books and more. Additionally, the early childhood staff room was furnished with a new rug, large table, 8 chairs, a bookshelf, lighting and a small table and chairs for the children.
During the launch of the updated facility, Executive Director Amy Gelles, President of the Board of Directors Audrey Mlotek, The Center’s Early Childhood Director Donna Morrison, and The Center’s Early Childhood Administrator Elizabeth Spiro, were presented with a tributary copy of the book, Oh the Places You’ll Go.
Local vendors who donated to the project included Foley’s Hardware of Larchmont, Village Paint of Larchmont, Harrison Paint, and The Furniture Sharehouse. Donations were also made by members of the JLWOS, as well as the Provisionals themselves.
