“The Art of ____" is the slightly ambiguous name of a new student show at the Museum of Arts & Culture this month. The show, by NRHS senior C. J. Senerchia, will run through January 27th and features works from his AP Sculpture Concentration submission, “Puzzles”, as well as more current works that use recycled materials such as newspapers and bottle caps. There will be an artist’s reception on Tuesday, January 31st from 6:30 to 8 pm.
Senerchia says he chose the title because “I don't want to tell people what to look for, or what to feel, but for them to interpret it as they will.” The artist has asked visitors to post their comments on sticky notes, so that a conversation develops over the course of the exhibit. “It has become almost a tradition,” explains Senerchia. “During my junior year, my friends would write comments on these post-it notes and place them on the inside of my locker, always reminding me that I have people who care for me. I guess that I use it in the show so people can give their feedback in a more personal way.”
Senerchia will be graduating in June, 2012. “My current academic interest is criminal forensics, which I plan on majoring in,” he says. “However, my athletic interest is Ultimate Frisbee, for which I am the captain of the school team this year.”
The Museum of Arts & Culture, located in the new wing of New Rochelle High School, is the only Regents-chartered museum in a school in the state of New York.
